JESUS THE KING

Text: Matthew 2:1-8, -18; John 18:33-37

From His birth to the time of His death, Christ’s kingship was always a great issue that troubled those who did not believe Him. But those to whom this truth about His kingship was revealed, they sought the King and worshipped Him.

This issue of His kingship caused Herod to plot to kill Him when He was still a baby, and the same issue angered the crowd that shouted “crucify him!”.

At the time of His trial before His death, Jesus confirmed His kingship before Pilate saying, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.

Everyone on the side of the truth listens to me.” Jesus came to establish a kingdom that is not of this world. Contrary to a worldly king whose death ends his reign, Jesus the King died on the cross to establish His kingdom that never ends.

Today, Christ’s kingship is still an issue that troubles those who do not want Him to rule as the King of their lives. Even professing Christians don’t feel comfortable having a king to rule their lives, they want to do their own ways to please themselves and leave the King outside the king’s chambers of their lives. How about you? Is Christ’s kingship an issue to you? Or is He truly your King?
