Isaiah 36:4-10 (21st Century King James Version)
And Rabshakeh said unto them, "Say ye now to Hezekiah, `Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria:
What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?say, thou sayest (but they are but vain words), "I have counsel and strength for war." Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, in Egypt, whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him. But if thou say to me, "We trust in the LORD our God," is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, "Ye shall worship before this altar"?
Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them. How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
And have I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it?
The LORD said unto me: "Go up against this land, and destroy it."'"Today the devil decided to taunt me, he tried to discourage me with lies and tried to rock my faith in my Father's love and concern for me. Immediately God took me to Isaiah 36 & 37. It starts off with the enemy- King Sennacherib's threatening words to King Hezekiah and all of Israel. I'm not a military person but this truly seems like some sort of military tactic. Try to break down the heart of the people by putting them in fear and then when the army comes in there won't be much resistance. Then he tries to make them feel stupid for trusting in God, Pharoah and he attempts to make them feel inferior by commenting on the size of their army, and of course he so called word of the LORD. There are times in our lives when the assault is so intense, when the devil shoots off his mouth and touches our circumstances. Depending on where you are will determine your response. Today the Father saw and heard what the enemy was trying to do to me. I refused to give in, feel sorry for myself, or doubt God. God in His love took me to Isaiah and I was strengthened, I was empowered and I told the devil YOU ARE A LIAR!
Next week let's be encouraged together as we hear what happened next and how King Hezekiah reacts, and how God responds to both the King of Assyria and King Hezekiah. Keep your head up saints of God---GOD IS FOR US!!!
